Abstract

Intubation of a double-lumen endotracheal tube (DLT) can be more difficult than a single-lumen endotracheal tube in difficult airways. Peel-away? introducer is used in urological procedures.A 54-year- old man undergoing right lung lobectomy could not be intubated with a 37Fr DLT through conventional laryngoscopy due to absences of upper incisors. We intubated a single-lumen tube through lightwand (TrachlightTM).And then the distal portion of Peel-away? introducer was first inserted to the single-lumen tube, and we extubated the single-lumen tube.We tried to intubate a DLT under guiding of Peel-away? introducer, Peel-away? introducer was easily passed through the DLT.After removing of Peel-away? introducer, the position of the DLT was corrected by fiberoptic bronchoscope. We experienced successful DLT intubation using Peel-away? introducer in a patient with absences of teeth.(Anesth Pain Med 2006; 1: 144¡146)
